About This Site

What this is

This site documents the public record on a proposed general-obligation bond for a new Johnson County, Iowa jail and sheriff's office, to be placed on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The site's purpose is to surface what the County has published, what the underlying records actually show, where official figures contradict one another, and where the public record has gaps.

Claims and figures are sourced to specific documents; where possible, direct links and downloads are provided. Where sources conflict, both figures are shown with their provenance.

What this is not

This is not a campaign site. It does not advocate a yes or no vote on the bond, and it takes no position on whether the County's existing jail should be replaced. The question this site addresses is narrower: whether the public record supports the specific dollar amount being asked of voters, and whether the figures the County has published are consistent with its own underlying sources.

Who made it

This site is not affiliated with any political party, advocacy organization, political candidate, or campaign committee, and no part of it is funded or directed by one.

It was compiled by a group of Johnson County residents. We have chosen not to list individual authors so that readers evaluate the claims and the sources on their own merits, not on the identities behind them. Every factual statement here is footnoted to a primary document.

We encourage critical readers to verify those claims against the cited sources independently rather than rely on our characterizations and summaries.

For the same reason, the contact address below is a forwarding alias rather than a named personal account. It does not affect the sourcing, which stands or falls on the documents themselves.

For questions about sourcing or methodology, see the Methodology page. To report a correction or provide supplemental information, contact jocojail.unbolted429@passmail.net.

Corrections policy

Any factual error — a misquoted figure, a wrong date, an incorrect source attribution — will be corrected promptly and logged on the Methodology page with the date of the correction. Disputed interpretations are not factual errors; where a reading of the record is contested, the dispute will be presented as such.
